McTime Music Instruction

Hi, My name is Timothy McNamara.  I have successfully  been teaching individual lessons on piano, saxophone, flute and clarinet as well as teaching and leading various school music ensembles for the past 25 years in the Chicago area, both at public schools and private educational institutions.  Currently, I am an Adjunct Music Faculty member for Woodwinds at Oakton Community College, in Des Plaines, IL.  I am also a woodwind coach at School Town of Highland. Previously, I have worked at the Old Town School of Music, FW Parker School in Chicago and Columbia College. 

 I offer individual lessons on sax, clarinet, flute and beginning piano in Highland, IN.  I make the instruction and coaching informative, fun and effective.  My students learn the fundamentals of instrumental techniques, a clear understanding of rhythms, helpful ways to learn how to read notes and notation, and how to develop one's "ear" for music.  I like to have my students work on the songs that they are interested in and the songs that they are familiar with hearing.

I received a Bachelor's degree in Music from DePaul in 1996.  I have licensure for substitute teaching in IL as well as at the School Town of Highland,   The lessons can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes long.  I am particularly helpful to the beginning student, when the correct learning of an instrument is so important!

  I accept and work with all ages of students and all ability levels. I have successfully worked with many adult students who are either beginners or adults who just would like to play better and make a better sound on their instrument.  I have some very helpful ways to teach my students improvisation and soloing as well as learning about theory and composing!  All ages are welcome!  Letters of reference and recommendation are available upon request.
